€10 Million Renovation Ushers in a New Era for Anassa, the ‘Queen of the Mediterranean’

March 2026: Anassa, the flagship property of family-owned and managed Thanos Hotels & Resorts and a member of the Leading Hotels of the World, announces a resort-wide renovation, marking a significant new chapter for the ‘Queen of The Mediterranean’. Famous for its idyllic location on the Akamas Peninsula, the hotel will undergo a phased refurbishment covering the redesign of rooms and suites, enhanced villas, and the introduction of a new dining experience. Supported by an investment of over €10m to date, the programme reaffirms Anassa’s position as Cyprus’ most established coastal hideaway.

Since opening in 1998, the resort has long drawn loyal guests to its seafront setting reminiscent of a local Cypriot village, complete with crystal clear waters, vast gardens of olive groves and bougainvillea and a chic design that epitomises Mediterranean living. The ongoing transformation will enhance this legacy while introducing a refined design language and elevated guest experience straight from the heart of the Akamas Peninsula, a location defined by natural beauty and long summer seasons, far removed from the island’s more crowded resort destinations.

The first phase, to be unveiled ahead of the start of the summer season (March 27, 2026), will focus on the complete redesign of 76 units- Junior Suites and higher room categories, as well as the full portfolio of traditional white washed villas, catering to an increased demand for multi-generational travel. Created in collaboration with internationally acclaimed interior design studio Yabu Pushelberg, the refreshed suites and villas introduce a new look with soft tonal palettes and natural textures layered with refined accessories and draperies that reflect the light and feeling of the landscape, anchored by a complete refurbishment of each suite’s bathroom. The upgrade will further transform the iconic main terrace, famous for its panoramic views of the coastline, elevating comfort and atmosphere with new outdoor furnishings.

Dining at Anassa will also enter a fresh experience-focused era with the introduction of Grill at Amphora, a refined à la carte evening concept centred around line-caught seafood and premium grilled meats, showcasing the best of wild Mediterranean and Atlantic fish, complemented by seasonal produce. The hotel’s wider culinary offering will remain anchored by French-Mediterranean fine dining at Helios, Asian-Mediterranean at Basiliko and traditional poolside mezze at Pelagos.

“Over nearly three decades, Anassa has come to define the Thanos approach - thoughtful and grounded in substance rather than passing trends, with seasonality and Mediterranean wellness central to its identity. As we begin this next chapter, we look ahead with great optimism, confident that this investment will ensure Anassa continues to evolve while remaining true to what has always defined it,” said Thanos Michaelides, CEO of Thanos Hotels & Resorts.
